We are absolutely fizzing about the course for your day out on the 29th November at Alpha Challenge. Here is some information to ensure your day goes smoothly.

REGISTRATION
5 and 10km Competitive Alpha’s you will need to get your race number on your arm at our timing desk before your race starts. Please allow time to get this done in the morning. You need to be warmed up and ready to go at the start line 5 minutes before your wave time. Registration opens at 8:15am.

Alpha Adventure Event registration is from 12 at the Container Bar. Only the captain needs to come to registration to collect your start pack.

PARKING
Parking is in the Ecco Landscape carpark or in the field behind it. To get there head up the Ecco Landscape driveway. Other parking is available at Dublin Bay or on the side of the road. Please be aware that parking is limited so we would recommend carpooling where you can and allowing enough time to get to your race start time. When parking please park as tightly as you can so that we can get as many into the on sight parking as possible.

COURSE HYDRATION
There will be water on course as well as at the finish line festival area.

FOOD and DRINKS
We have Fox and Badger food truck on site as MenLove Berries serving coffees. The Container Bar will open serving cold drinks to celebrate afterwards. No BYO is available.
Feel free to bring a camp chair and stay for the afternoon and enjoy the atmosphere.

PRIZEGIVING
Prizegiving will be at 12:00 on Saturday at the venue.

WHAT TO BRING
Wanaka weather can be temperamental - 30 degrees one day and the 8 the next. We recommend that you bring:

  • Long socks to wear out on course. Totally optional but there is lots of long grass.

  • Water

  • Suncream and sunhat

  • A change of clothes in case you get wet - let’s be honest you will :)

  • Warm clothing - a jacket

  • A good attitude

START TIMES

We will send our open out in waves, so you are welcome (and encouraged) to go with your friends and family and do it together.

Our competitive event is also a world champs qualifier so we ask that if there is a queue at any obstacle can you please allow the competitive racer to jump to the front of the line. Thank you!  For those in competitive we have aimed to provide you with a clear run of the course however if you come to an obstacle that has open entrants on it please kindly tell them you are racing. Open competitors, please let our competitive racers through.

Competitive Race

  • You are not allowed any help on obstacles.

  • Please show integrity when doing your penalty. Our marshals will also be watching.

  • Please familiarise yourself with the course map.

Please not that only the competitive waves will be timed. If you are in open and would like a time, please use your watch.

OBSTACLES
We have had lots of questions (and worried people) about the obstacles. If you are doing the competitive option then you will need to complete obstacles on your own and follow technical requirements however for our open non-competitive entrants please come along and HAVE FUN! Yes there will absolutely be things that will challenge you and we encourage you to give everything a try if you are physically able to as you never know what you can do until you try, BUT if you do not want to do something there is NO pressure. You can help each other and other entrants and we encourage this.

Key points for everyone to remember

  • It is a working farm and with that comes rabbit holes, uneven terrain and cow pats! Please watch where you are going! We don’t want any rolled ankles.

  • Obey all the rules of the marshals and show them respect to avoid DQ

  • If you feel that an obstacle is completely out of your ability please know your limits. Get some help from your friends or new friends on course or walk around it. While we want you to challenge yourselves your safety comes first.

  • Competitive entrants, your race number will be written on your arm. It would be really helpful if you could yell your number out as you run through the finish line. If you forget don’t worry our timing team will get this off you.

  • The terrain is very uneven so please watch where you are going

  • There may be occasions where you will need to wait on course in the open race however we encourage you to meet someone new. Support each other to get through obstacles and enjoy your day.

    VOLUNTEERS and CREW
We have an incredible team of volunteers and crew to help you on course. Please give them a big shout out as you go through the course. Technical obstacles will have an experienced crew member that can help you.

    KIDS
We've had some requests about entering a late primary school aged child in the 5km with a parent. The event is all about being together so if, as a parent, you are happy to do this with your kids, then hell yes, sign them up.
They don't have to complete every obstacle, and the course is a 3km loop, so if the wheels are falling off, there is no pressure to do the second one.

    So….
Make sure you are following us on Facebook and Instagram for race info (and post race pics!!!)

We will be posting information and pics on our socials so please jump on and check them out.

Can't wait to see you at Dublin Bay

Kim, Andrew and the Alpha Challenge team.
